A Vaporwave Rock Opera written for the Piazza d’Italia. With the help of the Arts Council of New Orleans, we activated the long-dormant Piazza d’Italia with a projection-mapped “Vaporwave Rock Opera” and a kickin’ party!
Our satire of the doomed 1984 New Orleans World’s Fair, held at Music Box Village, featured actual historical artifacts from the fair, live musical performances, and an actual gondola.
While researching the fair we became obsessed with NBC affiliate WDSU's doomed broadcast of the fair's opening day, so we hired improv troupe Special Features to do an Opening Day broadcast of our fair as well. Here's the Live Newscast from the event.
We created a multiplayer video game featuring 20+ floats carrying Vaporwave music videos, with one float representing each year from 1983-2001. It is downloadable directly to your computer and can be accessed anytime. Here is the video trailer for the parade.
The 2017 Virtual Parade is downloadable at the links below.
For our first Mardi Gras we streamed a series of collaborative vaporwave music videos on twitch and spammed the comments fields with gif “throws.” The complete parade, visible below, was an Official Selection at the 2016 New Orleans Film Festival.
